Teaching Notes - MathScape |

The teaching notes in MathScape units aid teachers as they plan for
the unit, get to know the mathematics in the unit, and actually teach the unit.
Features of the teaching notes include the following:
Getting ready to teach the unit:
- overview of the unit
- discussion of mathematics themes, processes, and strands highlighted
in the unit
- Web sites, computer programs, books, and organizations that
can help to connect the unit with other disciplines
- notes and tips from field test teachers on alternative routes
through the unit and pacing
Preparing to teach a specific phase (a set of 3-4 lessons):
- overview of the phase, including specific mathematical goals
for each lesson in the phase
- math background for the phase
- suggestions for ways to incorporate graphing calculators,
computers, and other technology into the phase
- materials list
- stories from field test teachers about the phase
Teaching individual lessons:
- step-by-step outline of lessons, including questions for discussion
- insets of student pages
- sample pieces of student work
- reproducibles necessary for lessons
- notes and tips from field test teachers about the lessons
