Overview - MiC |
Mathematics In Context represents a comprehensive mathematics curriculum for the middle grades purposefully designed to meet the content and pedagogy suggested by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The development of the curriculum reflects a collaboration between research and development teams at the Freudenthal Institute in The Netherlands, the University of Wisconsin and a national group of middle school teachers. A total of 40 units, 10 at each grade level, have been developed for Grades 5 through 8. Using realistic contexts, the units emphasize the inter-relationship between mathematical domains such as number, algebra, geometry and statistics. As the project title suggest, the purpose of the units is to connect mathematical content both across mathematical domains and to the real world.
