Parental & Community Support - MATH Thematics |
Research has shown that students perform better when there is a strong parent involvement program that includes communicating with parents and other family members on a regular basis. Communication can be achieved through letters, newsletters, individual conferences, and workshops. It is recommended that you use a variety of methods to reach parents, but adjust the content or delivery to best suit your community.
One way to apprise parents is to send out a general letter informing them about the text their students will be using and the philosophy of the curriculum. For each module of the curriculum the Teacher's Resource Book includes a Math Gazette. This newsletter informs parents about the mathematics, activities, and real world situations their children will explore. Math for Parents meetings are an opportunity to discuss the concerns of parents and to explore the pedagogical approaches in Math Thematics.
